In April of 2014, five Abaarso Post-Graduate students traveled to Kigali, Rwanda to participate in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars’ Workshop through the Akwanya Program. The five students spent a week participating in activities alongside scholars from schools around Africa. The activities were geared towards preparing the students for university life, as all five scholars received full Mastercard Scholarships at schools in the United States and Kenya. The students were able to discuss issues ranging from dealing with cultural differences to navigating a new campus (and country!) The students were also able to meet representatives from their respective colleges and a few of their future classmates. Students also participated in a ceremony to commemorate the 20 year anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide, led by fellow scholars.
